Conversion and migration

Change formats or repositories while preserving source–target reconciliation, version lineage and exceptions.

Inputs and starting conditions

Source inventory, metadata mappings, format rules, manifests/checksums, policies and acceptance criteria.

Workflow and control gates

  1. 01Map
  2. 02Test run
  3. 03Compare source–target
  4. 04Approve run / checkpoint
  5. 05Validate and cut over

Conversion changes representations; migration changes environments/repositories under a plan. Retain source copies and lineage according to policy. Cutover follows validation, acceptance and an agreed rollback plan.

Exceptions and recovery

Mapping errors, unreadable files, checksum mismatches or interrupted jobs: checkpoint/resume valid portions, isolate defects and reconcile counts; job completion is not acceptance.

Roles, outputs and states

ResponsibilitiesEvidence and states
Migration managers plan; owners approve; technicians run; QC compares source/target; acceptance authority permits cutover.Mapping/version, test reports, checkpoints, validation, acceptance, cutover and evidence packages. States: draft → test → approved → running → validated → handed over.

Scenario and acceptance criteria

ILLUSTRATIVE SCENARIO

Format migration changes pagination; compare before/after and reject representations that lose selected significant properties.

Complete only when

Retain the source, version mapping and acceptance decision.

Interfaces for this workflow

Start with a verifiable scope.

Agree record classes, quality criteria, permissions and evidence before scaling.
